Permit Application Instructions

To apply for a new a new permit, please review the following steps:

  • Register
  • Fill out application
  • Upload supplemental information and documents (in PDF format only) such as:
    • COMcheck Energy Compliance Reports (Commercial Energy)
    • Construction Plans
    • Electrical Load Calculations
    • Erosion Control Plan (SWPPP)
    • Fire Sprinkler Design
    • Gas Line Diagram
    • Manual J and D Reports (Residential Mechanical)
    • REScheck Energy Compliance Report (Residential)
    • Site Plan
    • Structural Engineering Calculations
    • Truss Calculations
  • Any Other Related Document(s)


Building permits are required for the following items:

  • Accessory Structure over 200  square feet (Detached Garage, Shed)
  • Commercial Addition
  • Commercial Alteration (Remodeling, Tenant Finish)
  • Commercial Re-Roof
  • Demolitions
  • Electrical (Added Circuits, New Lighting and Power Outlets, New and Replaced Wiring, Panel Upgrade)
  • Exterior Finishes
  • Fence (over 7 feet high)
  • Mechanical (Heating and Air Conditioning)
  • New Commercial
  • New Duplex
  • New Multi-Family (Three or more units)

  • New Residential
  • Plumbing (New Fixtures)
  • Residential Addition
  • Residential Alteration (Remodeling, Basement Finish)
  • Residential Re-Roof
  • Retaining Wall (Over 4 Feet High)
  • Sign
  • Solar PV Systems
  • Swimming Pool (in-ground and above ground deeper than 24 inches)
  • Window Replacement


No Permit Needed for the following:

  • Accessory Structures less than 200 square feet (Contact Planning & Zoning)
  • Decks less than 200 square feet, less than 30 inches above grade, and not attached to a dwelling
  • Fences less than 7 feet high (Contact Planning & Zoning)
  • Minor Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical repairs and portable appliance replacements
  • Painting, Papering, Tiling, Carpeting, Cabinets, Counter Tops, and similar finish work
  • Prefabricated Swimming Pools less than 24 inches deep
  • Retaining Walls less than 4 feet high (Contact Planning & Zoning)
  • Concrete Flat work (for sidewalk, curb & gutter, and approach contact Public Works)
  • Swings and other playground equipment
