Millcreek Common Breaks Ground!
On Tuesday, Millcreek broke ground for Millcreek Common, the public plaza and open space that will become a gathering spot for all of Millcreek.
An ice ribbon, a splash pad, ground floor retail, and a food truck park, will be highlights of the open space plaza. Pizza Nono, the popular 9th and 9th establishment, will be opening a second location as the first eatery on Millcreek Common.
Invitations were unfortunately limited because of COVID-19 restrictions, but Mayor Silvestrini was joined at the groundbreaking by County Mayor Jenny Wilson, State Senator Jani Iwamoto, County Councilmembers Ann Granato and Steve DeBry, and the Millcreek City Council, as well as City staff and the chairs of Millcreek's Planning Commission and Community Councils. Representatives of EPG Design (who designed the open space) and Hogan Construction were also present.
Several enthusiastic young Millcreekers toted their ice skates to the ceremony in honor of and in anticipation of the ice ribbon. The City is hoping to have the ice ribbon open for Thanksgiving weekend.
Millcreek Common is Phase One of the Millcreek City Center Master Plan. The Master Plan was created in response to Millcreek residents' expressed desire for a vibrant and accessible city center. The anticipated completion date for Phase One is November 2021.
